An Ode to Summer: Original Abstract Art

I’ve always loved summers, I mean who doesn’t, right?! Summer has been a time for adventures, outdoors, unplanned days, and a time for rest. Not rest in the sense of not doing anything, because we all know summer tends to get busy. But rest from the typical schedules and requirements of day to day life.

This summer I was very intentional with slowing down and removing self imposed pressures and to-do lists. I disconnected from social media for a while and I gave myself space to just adventure and say yes to being with my kids. It was not the easiest summer, but wow, we sure had a blast! We explored from coast to coast, from the beach to the mountains, we played in the water, we rode bikes, we ate lots of ice cream and açaí bowls.

And somehow in the midst and after all fo these adventures, some paintings came to life. Unexpectedly, unplanned, but with a sense of curiosity and fun. They’re created with acrylic paint, graphite, spray paint, and collage.

When I close my eyes I can smell the ocean breeze, I can feel the waves crash over my feet, I can feel the humid nights against my skin. I look at these paintings and I feel summer, I smile as the memories rush back, and I just know if you take a deep breath you’ll feel it too.

With love,
